Susannah and Will were married at Thornton Hall Hotel, which is a very popular venue based on the Wirral. It was a warm day at the end of July, with the typically cloudy skies we’ve often experienced this summer. I’m not complaining though, as we didn’t get any rain! The wedding was on a Sunday, and had a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. It was a very musical wedding including a string quartet, singer, and The Singing Piano Man. They were lucky enough to be able to hold the ceremony in the outside pagoda, and the musical entertainment made for a great atmosphere during the drinks reception. Thanks to Susannah and Will for a lovely day!
I always start with the details…pretty flowers!
Have never done this with a dress before…was very careful though!!

Susannah and her helpful bridesmaids.

Arrival of Will in gorgeous Rolls Royce.

Getting their priorities right.
Will looks very dashing here…
I love to grab informal family groups.

Who says men can’t multitask?!
Great hat. His dad’s wasn’t bad either!

I try and blend in so people don’t know I’m there!
Don’t normally get very excited about cars, but this was amazing.

Susannah was given away by her brother.

A very happy exit.

Always happy to let others capture the moment too!

Got to make the most of that car!!

Susannah looked so pretty.
Yes, I love the forest, flash lit shot.
Will and friends…nice and relaxed!

…and there are his piano hands!

Waiting for the big entrance…

Here we are!
Lucy and Garry were married at St John’s Church in Great Sutton, and held their reception at my new favourite wedding location, Iscoyd Park, a country house in Shropshire. Parts of the house date back to 1700, and the property has been restored in recent years, with work finishing in May 2010, 20 mins before wedding guests arrived! The house is beautiful, inside and out, with fantastic gardens. The wedding breakfast was held in the marquee, and was a feast to behold, with carefully chosen wine to accompany each of the five courses! I was there from early morning, until very late at night and had a wonderful time. Thanks to the lovely Lucy and Garry.

I would kill to have hair that long!

How many men does it take to adjust a bow tie?![]()

This little guy has his tie just perfect!
Here comes the stunning bride…with a very proud dad.

Married![]()
Everyone loves the confetti!
Cheers!

I like to make sure the bride and groom have time to relax.
Cute canapes.

The house is gorgeous.

The v. expensive dessert wine! I hope he’s going to share it ;-)
My fave bit… the speeches.

A lovely moment captured.

Three cheeky chaps!

The singer was great.

We sneaked off to the woods for these two…

…and then to the field of gold. One of my favourites from the day.

Maybe a little too much dessert wine?
After the family formal groups, it’s nice to catch relaxed shots with friends.

This couple impressed us all with their dancing.

First dance.

Loved the metal group!

The guests were thoroughly enjoying themselves…

…and the band were giving it loads!
Victoria and Steven held their wedding day at Thornton Hall Hotel, which is one of my favourite venues to work at. The bride and groom have the option of an outside ceremony (weather permitting!), and it makes a lovely setting for the ceremony, and also for the photographer. The skies were looking decidedly grey and ominous, but Victoria and Steven made the brave decision to go ahead outside! It was the right decision, as the weather held just fine for them. It was a wonderful day, and thanks go to Victoria and Steven.
Steven looking fairly relaxed!

A very pretty Victoria getting ready.

She looks perfect!

Steven and his best man leading the way.
I love capturing the guests as naturally as possible.

Here comes the bride!

The first look.

The exit as husband and wife.

I try and catch reactions like this as much as possible!
What a lovely couple they make!

A kiss in the woodland.

A tiny, but special guest.
Getting ready for the speeches…

and all the lovely expressions for me to capture!

The first dance…
…on their own enjoying the moment…

…and then the guests join the party.

It’s really nice to sneak outside during the evening…

…and use some flash creatively. It wasn’t really twilight when this was taken!

Natalie had chosen some lovely jewellery and accessories, really, really nice. But wait until you see the dress!

I love this photograph!

Natalie looked fantastic, radiating happiness really![]()

Frode wasn’t too shabby either, just adding those finishing touches before Natalie arrived at Saint Mary’s in Knowsley, Liverpool.

I told you the wedding dress was amazing, more on that later.

Outside the church, the sun was now shining as Natalie & Frode made their way through the confetti to the wedding car.

The wedding car was beautiful, although I was slightly concerned that the driver looked like one of the bad guys from The Matrix![]()

Leasowe Castle is actually a fair way from Knowsley, where Natalie’s family live and there the church was located. But Natalie’s mum had done a lot of research, and the venue that they chose if one of the nicest around (my sister Jenny was actually married there a 3 or 4 years ago). From the point of view of the Wirral Wedding Photographer, the nice thing about the venue is the lovely variety of locations for photographs. At the front there is the lovely gardens and new stone arbour where this shot was taken.

This and the following shot were taken in the woodland at the side of the Leasowe Castle, literally 30 yards from the bar, but you wouldn’t believe it from the photograph. I was working with Stuart during the portraits and into the evening, and we were able to use a special lighting arrangement for this shot.

Sometimes people ask me if I do traditional group photographs during weddings, of course the answer is yes, as it’s something that everyone always wants. On the other hand, I try to keep them as stress free as possible for people, and don’t do too many, so that the bride and groom get plenty of time to relax with their guests before the wedding breakfast begins.

Natalie & Frode make their big entrance into the wedding reception.

You may have guessed already, Frode isn’t from Liverpool. In fact, he’s from Norway, and of course he had plenty of his family over as well, so there was a mini viking invasion (not for the first time on the Wirral). One of the signs of this was the bottles of very strong Aquavit on each of the tables, but from what I could see, this was a custom that the Liverpool contingent were more than happy to adopt.

As the sun started going down, we headed around the back of the Leasowe Castle for a few extra photographs by the sea.

Casinos seem to be getting more and more popular at weddings. You can’t gamble real money of course, but they’re great fun and add a bit of James Bond style glamour to the evening reception.

It’s really nice when I get to stay later at a wedding and can photograph the first dance and evening party.

The live music was fantastic and the dance floor was packed throughout the evening.

Lyndsey & Andrew were married at the Thornton Hall Hotel on the Wirral. We had typical Cheshire summer weather including both pouring rain as well as some lovely sunny spells, so we ended up using both the inside and outside of the hotel for wedding photographs.

The wedding was held in the Pulford Suite at Thornton Hall, so the guests were able to relax in the adjoining private bar prior to the ceremony.

Lyndsey looked fantastic as you can see!

I loved the combination of pink and ivory flowers.

The ceremony was held indoors due to the changeable weather (a good job as it poured down during the ceremony), but we were able to do the group photographs outside afterwards.

After the wedding portraits and groups we had the wedding breakfast and speeches. I don’t usually photograph people eating (unless specifically requested), but it’s really nice to include the speeches in the wedding photography coverage.

Beth & Andy’s wedding was the second in two weeks at Craxton Wood in Cheshire. The ceremony was held a few miles down the Chester road in Hoylake on the Wirral, at Saint Hildeburgh’s Church.

The inside of the church is truly magnificent, combining many columns and arches to give an awesome view as you look up the aisle.

We had lovely sunny weather, so all the guests were able to relax outside before going in for the wedding ceremony.

Beth looked stunning and very, very happy.

After the ceremony, there was a chance for people to relax and enjoy the good company before setting off for the Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel near Chester.

The hotel has lovely spacious grounds so I made the most of them for a short portrait session with Beth & Andy. I always try to keep the portraits as relaxed and natural as possible as that’s what I would want if it was my wedding day. I think that way the love and emotions of the couple are captured, and the above shot of Beth & Andy really demonstrates that I think.

At this wedding there was a formal line up before the meal to introduce all the guests to the wedding party.

Beth & Andy make their big entrance to cheers and applause!

Thornton Hall is one of my favourite wedding venues on the Wirral. Firstly, it’s possible to have your ceremony outside, as Rachel & Wayne chose to do. If the weather turns out to be less than perfect, it’s possible to have the ceremony inside instead, so it’s a win-win situation really.
Secondly, the staff at Thornton Hall are some of the nicest and most helpful around, and the food always seems to be excellent.

Before the ceremony, Wayne and the wedding guests enjoyed a drink or two in the Pulford Suite bar.

Everyone was eager to see Rachel’s procession to the wedding ceremony, cameras at the ready!

Big hugs all round after the ceremony.

Rachel has a lovely natural smile, very photogenic and genuine![]()
